Basic Horse Vocab

For those of us unfamiliar to all the horse lingo, I'll be posting a series of horse words and their definitions, from the simplest words to the most complicated.

Walk: I hope you all know what this is. If you don't, you have a LEE-tle problem with your education. :-)
Trot: a two beat gait, bumpy, faster than the walk (shown right)
Lope (canter): Three beat gait, smooth, faster than a trot and slower than a gallop. (Image coming soon)
Gallop: four-beat gait in which all hooves touch the ground at separate times, with a moment of suspension. Basically running.
Arabian: horse breed originating from Saudi Arabia. Features include dished face and high-carried tail. Pictures coming soon
Kiger Mustang: Particular breed of mustang, originating from Burns, OR. Dun gene
(meaning colors vary from dun, buckskin, and grulla). Picture of Kiger on top right corner.
Appaloosa: Breed of spotted horse. Originated from Washington, bred by the Natives Americans, particularly the Nez Perce tribe. My horse is an Appaloosa.

More vocab words coming soon!
